Next, head to the banks of the beautiful Penobscot River and enjoy a stroll in the early morning air. Bangor’s waterfront has been recently revitalized and features a walkable paved pathway, benches and picnic tables – a can’t-miss sight to see during your visit. For a more intense morning walk, cross the bridge and continue to the Brewer Riverwalk and back.

If you’re here in the summer, a great lunchtime option is to enjoy a picnic on the scenic Bangor waterfront. Grab a sandwich, pizza, fresh seafood and more from food trucks that spend most of the summer and fall months parked next to the Bangor Waterfront.

Plus, nearby restaurants along the Penobscot River and West Market Square downtown provide plenty of outdoor seating for groups, beautiful views and atmospheres that can’t be beaten.

With afternoon meetings wrapped up, attendees can explore all the offerings of the region.

If you’d like to find an unusual or one-of-a-kind item, West Market Square downtown has a delightful array of shops that offer antiques, collectibles, clothing and more.

For the history, art and science buffs, our region has a number of museums and galleries that provide fantastic learning and entertainment experiences.

Stretch your legs or simply grab a bench to catch up on some reading at one of our many parks and trails. Cascade Park, a longtime favorite, features a fountain,  picnic tables, benches and even a waterfall. The nearby Bangor City Forest is a perfect respite from the indoors and offers 680 acres and nine miles of trails, and is great for wildlife watching.

For the serious explorers, Bangor is a 90-minute excursion from the world-renowned Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, as well as Maine’s historic Mid-Coast town of Camden, and Baxter State Park, home to Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak.
